Family owned farms are organized around the Asociacion de Productores Cafetaleros de la Cuenca del Rio Maranon (Aproccurma). With a goal to help the families develop and progress in their agrarian enterprises, the cooperative aids farmers to make agronomic and economic decisions for their product and seek opportunities to preserve the environment for continued quality yields.
On two to three hectares of land on average, rice and cacao is grown alongside the coffee, and each year the soil is augmented with organic material composted from the diverse crops. The coffee is picked, sorted, and washed by hand and then spread out to dry in the high-altitude sun.
